Wisdom Teeth Removal
What are wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth can be seen as our third molars and generally come in long after the rest of our teeth. As humans have evolved, we no longer need our third molars to eat, and they can cause problems if your mouth doesn’t have enough space for them.
What are some warning signs that my wisdom teeth need to be removed?
- Shifting teeth
- Jaw pain and stiffness
- Sensitive, inflamed, or bleeding gums
- Headaches
- Bad breath
- Cavities in the molars
What can I expect from wisdom tooth removal?
The procedure can take one to several hours based on how many teeth need to be removed and the severity of your situation. You will either have a local or general anesthetic to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. You will not feel any pain during the procedure.
If you and your provider decide to use a general anesthetic, you will need to bring someone to the appointment with you to drive you home after the surgery and assist with any aftercare, as you may be quite drowsy when you wake up. If your provider has to cut your gums or bone to extract the teeth, they will stitch the wounds with stitches that will dissolve on their own after a few days.
It is normal to experience some pain and swelling for a few days after the surgery. Usually, you will be prescribed pain medication and/or an antibiotic to take on the days after. It is very important to take the medication exactly as described. Your provider will inform you of how you should eat and care for yourself following surgery.
How much will it cost?
Pricing for wisdom tooth removal varies based on the level of care needed to be determined by the provider. Insurance usually covers at least part of the total cost. Dental Studio London is now offering FREE consultations for wisdom teeth extractions with your regular cleaning.
